About Me

I was born in Ohio a while back and spent most of my childhood in a small town. After graduating from high school, I enrolled in college and started as a political science major, but later switched to a self-created "neurology" major when I decided on a medical career. After a 1-year stint as a counselor for troubled teenagers, I entered med school. Four years later, I was out of school and in Connecticut doing my residency in general surgery. Toward the end of the 5-year program, I started questioning whether I truly wanted the lifestyle of a surgeon. Despite my doubts, I finished my training and became a licensed surgeon. Ultimately, however, I decided it wasn't for me and started exploring other career paths, finally settling on journalism. I worked as a journalist in New York for many years before leaving the profession in April 2010.
